NDP Classrooms

NDP Classrooms allow educators to host courses on NDP and provide students with dedicated workspaces for learning modules, assignments, and projects.

Key features include:

  • Workspaces as learning modules or assignment frameworks: Professors can design workspaces that serve as the core learning and working units of a course. Each student group receives its own copy of each workspace. Students can add digital assets from the catalog or external repositories while preserving the original professor-provided content and receiving future updates.
  • Collaborative learning environment: Classrooms are designed to support collaborative work. Professors assign students to groups, and each group shares its workspaces with all of its members. In addition, every group receives 5GB of persistent storage in JupyterHub, accessible to all students in the group.
  • TA administration and view-only access: Professors can assign TAs to help manage a classroom. TAs can be given administrative privileges or view-only access, for example, to support grading. Learn more about TA permissions here.

The Education Hub also hosts multiple public classrooms that can be discovered through Community Resources of the Education Hub. Educators can copy open classroom content to their own hub and add additional materials for use in their courses.

For a hands-on example, review the NDP Data 8 course, which adapts the first eight weeks of UC Berkeley's Data 8 course. Instructors are encouraged to explore it as a reference for structuring their own classrooms.
