The Health Care and Nutrition Study (HCNS) is a supplemental mail survey conducted as part of the Health and Retirement Study (HRS), sponsored by the National Institute on Aging and conducted by the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research. First administered in 2013, this study collects detailed information about health care access, food purchases, food consumption, and nutrition including vitamins and other supplements among HRS respondents. The questionnaire was mailed to a subsample of over 12,000 HRS participants to gather comprehensive data on dietary habits, healthcare utilization patterns, and nutritional supplement use among older Americans. This dataset enables researchers to examine the relationships between nutrition, health behaviors, and aging outcomes, providing valuable insights for studies on food security, dietary patterns, and health care decision-making among the elderly population in the United States.
