Planscape

Planscape is a free, open-source, web-based landscape-scale decision-support platform that helps agencies, tribes, NGOs, and communities design and prioritize wildland fuel-treatment strategies to reduce wildfire risk, maximize ecological and carbon co-benefits, and increase lanscape resilience. Spatial Informatics Group (SIG) is the Steward Planscape, platformizing the USFS ForSys prioritization engine and integrating USFS wildfire and vegetation models, in the Risk Monitor Framwork (FVS, FSim etc.) to quantify direct and indirect (shadow) impacts of treatments and compute risk-based performance metrics. Planscape’s PROMOTe module translates condition and climate-informed resource kits into management opportunities and cost/benefit evaluations, and the platform supports scenario planning, plan sharing, and CONUS-scale deployment using nationally consistent datasets. Built through multi-agency co-development (California Natural Resources Agency, Google.org, USDA Forest Service, university partners, and more), Planscape emphasizes open science, operational readiness, and cross-jurisdictional collaboration for evidence-based landscape investment and implementation.
