Historical Fire Perimeters (Firemap API) for FARSITE

This IPython notebook retrieves historical fire perimeters from the WIFIRE Firemap API. The user must provide a fire incident name and year of occurrence. The notebook fetches perimeter polygons and timestamps for the specified fire and downloads the data to GeoJSON files.

purpose <p>This code was created because there is no other available code for retrieving historical perimeter updates data for a wildfire digital twin workflow. The perimeter updates sustain a digital twin of the user-specified fire incident and are used as inputs for sequential calls to FARSITE simulations (https://research.fs.usda.gov/firelab/products/dataandtools/farsite) and Ensemble Kalman Filtering for data assimilation.</p>
