High Resolution SFM Topography of the Central San Andreas Fault, California

The San Andreas fault at Dry Lake Valley data set comprises high-resolution topography and an orthomosaic of part of the creeping central section of the San Andreas fault (SAF) at Dry Lake Valley, California, USA. The data set covers ~3 km of the SAF and ~2.7 km2 area. The data were created using small UAS-derived low-altitude aerial photographs, Structure-from-Motion processing, and georeferencing from dGNSS onboard the sUAS and ground control points. The motivation for producing the data set was to difference the topography against EarthScope lidar of the area collected ten years earlier, in 2007, to measure strain along and across strike of the fault (Scott et al., 2020). The study site was chosen because it is the location of a previous paleoseismology study (Toke et al., 2015), and creep-induced fracturing was mapped in detail at the location in 2014 and used to infer deformation rate localized on the fault (Scott et al., 2020).
