This dataset provides a downscaled estimate of soil moisture current conditions onto the ParFlow-CONUS2 grid.

creationMethod For each day, start with the SMAP soil moisture value recorded. If no SMAP value is available, use the mean of SMAP data for that date from the past 7 years. Subtract a SMAP long-term mean and multiply by a topographic index that is min-max normalized. Add a ParFlow long-term mean to create a normalized SMAP estimate for the ParFlow-CONUS2 grid. Calculated soil moisture is bounded by minimum residual soil moisture and the maximum porosity for each ParFlow-CONUS2 grid cell.
