Fort Stewart 2025: three-dimensional wind and temperature

Ambient wind conditions were collected for two prescribed burns at Fort Stewart using two sonic anemometers (81000v, R.M. Young Inc.) set up on the upwind of each burn unit. Burn units F8.1 and F8.2 were burned as a single unit on April 14, 2025 and burn unit F6.6 was burned on April 16, 2025. For both prescribed burns, sonic anemometers were located on in the northwest corner and along the western edge outside the burn perimeter mounted on top of a 9-m tower (Figure 4). Sonic anemometers were logged at 10 Hz using CR1000x dataloggers (Campbell Scientific).

method R.M Young 81000v sonic anemometers were used with factory calibrations, with average reported accuracies of 0.05 m/s for 3-dimensional wind speed, ± 2 degrees for horizontal wind direction, and ± 0.01 m/s for sonic speed of sound, resulting in a temperature accuracy of ± 2-50 (°C). Response above 50 °C is approximately linear up to around 100 °C. Specifications for the sonics can be found in the users manual ( 81000V-90L.pdf) provided in this dataset.
