Study Site Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield is in Hinesville, Georgia, approximately 30 miles west of Savannah. Of the 273,000 acres, 228,511 were prescribed burned across Fiscal Years 2019-2021. See Loudermilk et al. 2023 for a full study site description. In 2024, E11.5 (597 acres, 242 hectares), E16.2 (628 acres, 254 hectares), and E16.3 (636 acres, 257 hectares) were available for prescribed burning. Located in the western half of Fort Stewart, Units E16.2 and E16.3 are bisected by Taylors Creek. E11.5 is just east of E16.3, where numbered dirt roads 9A is a west boundary and 4A is the east boundary. Before 2024, E16.2 and E16.3 units were last burned together on March 5, 2022, and E11.5 was last burned on March 14, 2022. In 2024, the Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield Forestry Branch conducted the prescribed burns. The fire was ignited via helicopter and on-the-ground assets. E11.5 was burned on February 8, 2024. E16 was burned on February 10, 2024. While E16.2 and E16.3 are two management units, they were sampled and burned as one unit, referred to as E16. |
