Fort Stewart 2024: Contextual data for Wildland Fire Science Initiative (WFSI) Research Burn Campaign

This dataset contains contextual information for the Wildland Fire Science Initiative (WFSI) research burn campaign: Fort Stewart 2024, conducted on February 8-10, 2024, in longleaf pine-wiregrass ecosystems on the Army base, Fort Stewart. WFSI research burn campaigns are collaborative opportunities for researchers in the WFSI community to jointly conduct prescribed fire research and combine expertise. The campaigns are supported by the WFSI Integrated Research Management Team (IRMT) in conjunction with installation’s personnel.

method The Integrated Research Management Team (IRMT) works to bridge the gap between wildland fire researchers and wildland fire managers. The purpose of the IRMT is to manage the complex collection of personnel, objectives, plans, and logistics that make up a research burn. One duty of the IRMT is to compile researcher agnostic contextual data that describe general attributes about the location and conditions under which the burn takes place. This dataset may be drawn from a variety of sources including land managers from the location where the burn takes place or other public sources, but are not synthesized by the IRMT. Sources may include GIS managers from the burn site, MesoWest weather data, LandFire classifications or other publicly available data where available.
