Study site Osceola National Forest is a 200,000-acre National Forest between Lake City, FL, and Jacksonville, FL, bisected by Interstate 10. The long-term winter burn plots were installed in the early 1960s for research and education. The winter burn plots are east of Ocean Pond off Forest Service Road 266. They are burned on 1-, 2-, and 4-year rotations. There are also unburned plots (check plots). In 2022, eighteen burn units (six 1-year, six 2-year, six 4-year) were available for prescribed burning. In 2021 and 2022, sampling occurred in nine randomly selected burn units—three 1-year, three 2-year, and three 4-year units. |
